I SWEAR!

Last week Isaac came home from school and said, "Mom Jose and Johnny were calling each other bad names." What were they calling each other, I ask? "The F-word and the B-word," he replies. What's the F-word and the B-word? "Ummmm......I can't remember, but they were bad and they got in trouble."

Then this morning Isaac says, "Mom did you know that Giovanni called me an A$$hole at school the other day?"

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold up there Nelly! What in the world! These kids are 6 years old with a vocabulary and a mouth that is dirtier than my toilet! I am saddened to know that these kids are using these words thinking that it is ok. I am also saddened to know that Isaac has to be a part of this at such a young age. I knew it would happen sooner or later, but I was thinking more like the 3rd grade, not First! I have been able to use this as a teaching opportunity, but it is true. You just do your best and teach your kids principles you know to be right, and you hope that it is enough. I am a firm believer that teaching your children righteous principles, and having a father or mother actively involved in a child's life will aid and mold that child into becoming a respectful, responsible child. Isaac attends a school where many of the parents are not actively involved for many different reasons. And it shows. I don't blame the children, and maybe the parents can't help it. But I am most grateful that I am able and willing to be a part of my children's lives, and teach them what I believe to be correct principles to help shape them into the best beings they can become.

You hit the nail on the head! He still LOVES George Straight (who, I have to admit, I like too). Luckily I have been able to mold him into a musical/broadway fan and he loves Les Mis, Wicked, Cats, Phantom, etc. (phew!) However vern is very slow to appreciate or like anything even close to Dashboard or Death Cab. Oh well....do you and your husband like similar music? Good attitude on raising kids. I totally agree. I have had a hard time lately dealing with all of the crap Chase sees/hears at school or even at friend's homes. It is scarry and we have to be so diligent in teaching them what's right! It sounds like your little boy is doing a good job at avoiding bad language and recognizes what a sad choice it is to use profanity!

Man I did not learn those words until I went into the boys locker room in High School. Times have changed.

Emily B. glad you stopped by!

You too Chumly! Not sure I know who you are, but I am glad you chimed in. I had to laugh at your last entry on your blog. They told my husband the same thing when he was in highschool. (Since he was flunking particular classes and none of the teachers wanted him back.) They told him if he didn't take anymore classes with them as the teacher, they would pass him. Was that a deal or what!
