If you know me, you know that I hate anything creepy crawly, slithery or slimy. It was a bit of a stretch for me to go galavanting through unknown teritory lifting up vines and pushing back brush to get to the gems of the crop. But I did it, and am quite proud of myself.
I have been able to pick grapes right of the grape vine and freeze them for a tasty treat. I was hoping to make juice and can it, but didn't have the right equipment. Aren't they beautiful!
There are a ton of tomatoes and peppers in the garden. So I canned the tomaotes and chopped up the peppers and froze them. Those green ones are stinking hot!
Rochelle and I went and picked peaches at a neighbor's house and canned them together. We picked yellow and white peaches. We canned some and made peach pie filling with the rest. We've already had a peach pie or two. Ala Mode of course!
We, Rochelle and I, also went and picked apples in her old hood and got a ton! I made apple pie filling and I am planning on drying the rest. Dried apples are my FAVORITE!
Around the house there are pumpkins growing which I will soon be able to pick, and we've had squash and some sort of huge cucumber type thing. But we don't eat squash, so we let those ones go. And then there are these things. I have no idea what they are. Do you? If you do, please comment and let me know. There are a ton of them. Inside is a green "berry" thingy. The outside is a leaf/flowerlike covering that encases the berry.
I remember watching my Mother can when I was younger and I remember eating the goods many a time. She canned way much more than I did, but I think she would be proud. I really enjoyed canning. It is very self fulfilling. If you want to feel really domestic, go can something.
